This paper is related with the operations control in the maintenance department of a hospital center, through implementation of management audits. The study was carried out in five hospitals, with by evaluating the performance of the maintenance function. It was demonstrated that the most critical component in the results of a management audit is the human resource. For the development of the research, a survey was applied to managers and employees, as a technique for data collection. In addition, tools such as Ishikawa diagram and Brainstorming were used. The study showed that technological problems, such as the availability of assets, are usually associated with a shortage of resources; however, its root cause is a mismanagement by the staff in charge of this activity in the maintenance departments. The application of the proposed method evidenced that the most critical component in the results of a management audit is the human resource.
